These new pieces, Equinox, Fertile Ground, Near and Far, and Split the Field, represent a desire to frame a distant landscape while simultaneously study a more focused element. The shift, from macro to micro, happens on the same surface, providing a juxtaposition of scales, textures and forms. The small pieces (12” x 12”) are studies in oil and oil pastel for a series of larger paintings, currently in progress. Please check back soon for updated work.
Flannery O’Connor wrote about her writing, “In the novelist’s case, prophecy is a matter of seeing near things with their extensions of meaning and thus of seeing far things close up.” In these new paintings, the landscape is near and far, framed and painted with many colors and textures.
